PLAN FOR THE GREATEST HOMECOMING ON EARTH
TURN DOWNTOWN BLUE & GOLD
With the historic 100th NC A&T Homecoming just around the corner, we have a wonderful opportunity to come together and show our downtown spirit. To celebrate this milestone, the Greensboro Police Department is launching the "Turn Downtown Blue & Gold" initiative, and we would love for you to be a part of it.
The goal is simple: to create a vibrant welcome for thousands of alumni, students, and visitors by filling your storefronts, windows, and entrances with NC A&T’s school colors. It’s a gentle way to show our support and let everyone know that Greensboro is thrilled to welcome Aggies home. To make participating as easy as possible, we are offering free Blue & Gold Kits to downtown businesses. These kits include simple and fun decorating supplies to use, such as streamers, garland, balloons, window markers, festive backdrops, window displays, homecoming welcome sign, table covers, etc. Please take a look at the attached flyer for details, including the sign-up link, QR code, and deadline information. We would be absolutely delighted to have your support!
Ultimately, this is an opportunity to demonstrate how, downtown businesses, the City of Greensboro, community partners, NC A&T and the Greensboro Police Department can work together to create a safer, connected, and welcoming downtown for this historic 100th NC A&T Homecoming.
GPD will be personally delivering these free kits to participating businesses during the week of October 19th.

Motorists should use caution and follow posted detour signs in the area while work is being completed.
Work schedules are dependent on weather conditions and material/equipment availability.

The City Council approved a resolution allowing the City to begin a voluntary rezoning initiative for interested property owners adjacent to, within, and near the Downtown Greenway.
The initiative creates a pathway for eligible property owners to consider rezoning their properties to Greensboro’s Central Business (CB) zoning district, with the City initiating the rezoning process on behalf of owners who choose to participate.
Council’s action does not automatically rezone any property. Participation is voluntary, and property owners must provide written consent before their property can move forward through the City’s required zoning review and public hearing process.
September 15th
The Police Chief has committed to several steps to improve safety downtown:
Exploring four additional officers dedicated to downtown coverage 7 days a week, creating a more consistent police presence.
In the short term, increasing weekend coverage: Five officers and one supervisor at each of the three problem locations every Friday and Saturday night — 15 officers and 3 supervisors, in addition to Center City Resource Team (CCRT) resources.
Adding a fire inspector on Friday and Saturday nights for the next 3–4 weeks to address code and safety violations as they occur. The intent is to identify and take appropriate action on code or other violations as they occur rather than addressing these issues after the fact.
GPD is also working with the ABC Task Force, GFD Fire Marshal’s Office, NCALE, and downtown venue owners to improve communication, security, staffing, code compliance, and patron management. Additional meetings and compliance checks are planned through mid-October.
The Violent Crime Reduction Team (VCRT) also remains active downtown, including patrols of parking areas and the seizure of illegally possessed firearms.
Have a question? Need a recommendation? Have something to share with your fellow downtown businesses?
The Downtown GSO Business Owners Discord is a place for downtown business owners, managers, and teams to connect, share resources, ask questions, find collaborators, share opportunities, and help one another out.
Think of it as a digital back room for Downtown Greensboro businesses. It’s a place to connect with the people who are doing business downtown every day.
